After crossing the Barkly highway for days we cracked a hard left onto the Stuart highway. Just like that we saw our first sign of sizable civilization in Tennant creek. The Mary-Ann dam can be found on they way into Tennant Creek and is well worth a brief visit, if nothing else to remind you that bodies of water actually exist. The Battery Hill Mining Centre is a must. This free information and visitor centre was for us a truly educational experience. It provides a wealth of knowledge on the entire area, featuring a video centre which gives a great overview. It was here that we gained an appreciation for John McDouall Stuart which we spoke in more detail in our Daly Waters post.
